FAQs Q: What is yoga? What are the benefits? A: Yoga "tightens
and tones the entire body, enhances flexibility and builds core strength
by combining traditional fitness training, focused breathing and
strength building through yoga poses. The result is a mind-body workout
that improves health, athletic performance and mental acuity in people
of all ages and fitness levels" (yogafit.com). Yoga is for everybody and
every body. (See the
top ten
reasons to try yoga.)
Q: What is pilates? What are the benefits? A: Pilates is
a method of exercise and physical movement designed
to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. It is a
"core-focused" exercise which is famous for creating fabulous posture,
strong bodies with lean muscle mass, and incorporates stretching and
breathing techniques into the practice. Pilates will change your body
and yield numerous benefits. Results,
of course, are individualized, but in general, if
practiced faithfully, strength and flexibility (particularly of the
abdomen and back muscles) and coordination (both muscular and mental)
will improve. Overall, posture, balance, and core strength will
increase. Healthy breathing and increased circulation improve, and many
experience positive body awareness for the first time. Q: I am new to pilates. What class should I attend? A: As most people know, pilates classes include some challenging movements, all of which are synchronized with breathing. If these movements are done incorrectly, participants will not benefit as much as they could/should. Also, there is a risk of injury if a movement is done improperly. If you are brand-new to pilates or have an injury, you should enroll in the Intro to Pilates session. During Introduction to Pilates session, participants will learn the core movements of pilates, along with the breathing that is associated with them.
Q: Can I do attend pilates if I've never done it before? And if you are
brand new to pilates, or have an injury, you can enroll in our week Intro to Pilates
session. In this session, students will learn foundational pilates
poses and pilates breathing, along with the benefits of each.
